Just been quoted £850 for a new power steering pump from a dealer, and that's with discount!

after getting up off the floor realised the only sensible way forward is to remove it and get it reconditioned.

Autodoc have no stock of any brand so there must be some kind of availability issue which allows them to charge so much for it.

Does anybody know/recommend a company which would be able to do this?

I'd be careful with them, they source from the Eastern Bloc and it can be many weeks before parts arrive, if they arrive at all!

Had a few issues with them as have others

But in saying that, Autodoc can be crap with delivery times too!

Autodoc have none in stock at all thats what lead me to think there is a manufacturing shortage somewhere and to get it reconditioned instead.

I do/did (when they're back live)...!

Which steering system do you have Bob?

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp?id=NJ91-E...

There are quite a few units on eBay; could be worth looking to buy a used one, get that sent off and refurbed and then its a straight swap-out with your current one

I've been checking the facebook page and seems like they might be close but still nothing, such a pain without it!

That's my plan as it will work out much cheaper but I don't really know any places that do it aside from google. Always prefer recommendations.

Cotswold confirmed part no was: 32416774698

~100 quid overpriced, but if you are willing to pay for convenience it's not too bad

Might help if you put a link up to one that's not overpriced for the OP to consider

I had a hell of a shock when the power steering pump went on my E36 about 5 years ago. Think I was quoted £500 just for the part.

Got a recon Bosch one on eBay for £60 and paid a local garage another £60 to fit it.

The prices for parts for the older BMWs are also supposed to be discounted. In fact the £500 was the discounted price.

When the clutch went BMW wanted £1500, quite a few years ago, local indie wanted £1000.

A mate's brother who worked for BMW and did work at home on the side, £250 smile

More than happy to consider links from people if they can find them cheaper but currently £200+ is the going rate.

No cheaper, but normally better for getting stock.

Yup; just bought the viscous fan clutch for my V8 from them

Always great to deal with and their price for the Meyle pump isn't far off the eBay price

Never thought to check C3BMW!

I'd use them over the eBay seller

Why not just fit a secondhand pump, if it starts to fail you can then get your old one rebuilt.

Sounds like the cheapest way out to me!

Exactly what I said further up... Sometimes that's the best way

Done that with a few alternators etc

An EBay ad taken at random.

Scroll down to 'compatibility', then in parentheses [Show all compatible vehicles]
It seems that the same pump is used in some other BMW's. It may be of no use whatsoever, but it may help in your search.

Always funny to read how people are still shocked to this day, when they find out that parts for a BMW are expensive, especially from BMW dealers! biggrin
