Has anybody got any experience of remapping a G Series 840d ? I was going to get it done but was advised by a BMW specialist the G series model engine doesnt take well to the extra power long term and causes reliability issues.

Wondering if anybody has done this and used the car long term safely or had issues ? And also if the power gains are noticeable .

Thanks in advance !

You will void any BMW warranty so you have to consider if it is worth it.

I have a 640d and my wife as an X3 M40d and to be honest haven't considered the need with either of them. Certainly with these it would be easy to get that additional 50 BHP but that's not what these cars are about. Big engines, lots of torque and easy to drive over long distances so I would leave them alone.

Does your car have the mild hybrid engine?

Fair enough. Just thought getting closer to the 400 Bhp mark would make for a more exciting car in sport mode. It’s not the mild hybrid no.
It’s not under warranty anyway just passed that mark but was wondering the effect on long term engine reliability if anyone had mapped the g series

May be wrong here but isnt the max gearbox tolerance 515lb which is why Alpina never went over that your car is at 502lb as it is.

aaaaaah... interesting, did not know this, sounds like its a bad idea from the comments so far, seen loads of F series 35/40d that have been remapped and had great results but for some reason nothing on this one. such a great car could easily handle a bit more poke chassis wise , maybe should have gone for 850i

The non MHT 40d (B57) 320hp engine is remapped by most of the tuners, it's the MHT 340hp 40d and 286hp 30d versions that don't have a map (yet) the B57 has been out for 7 years plenty of them remapped but if you map it you have to ready to stand on.

I believe mine is non MHT, but is there a difference between F series and G series which this one is ? What do you mean by "ready to stand on"?

Researching looks like things have moved on, this is what Alpina has done to your Engine

quote The BMW ALPINA D3 S drivetrain impresses with an eagerness to rev despite offering remarkable amounts of low-end torque, effortlessly offering long driving ranges in combination with a high performance output. The straight-six 3.0 litre engine with bi-turbo charging offers a maximum output of 261 kW (355 hp). The maximum torque of 730 Nm (538 lb-ft) is available between 1750 and 2750 rpm for immediate power delivery in every driving situation. Your stock is 320bhp and 502 lb but they do a lot of things with the engine obviously not just a map.

Not a bad idea at all

Ive driven a number of mapped and non mapped 3 0 twin turbo diesel cars...currently got a 740d xdrive

The map makes the car smoother, sharper to drive, faster...no downsides at all in my experience.

The only reason I wouldnt do my 740d is as its under BNW warranty and I dont want to void it

Go for it!....use simon at emaps....hes class , travels to you, knows the remap game v v well.

Thanks for that info ! V v tempted to go for it. Doesn’t seem to be many people who’ve done it to the 840d but I guess 740d would be v similiar as they’re on the same platform
