E46 318i high Flow Catalyst ?
Discussion
I have just been told after my local garage checked over my fairly recent acquisition : a 2002 E46 318i SE with the 1995cc 143BHP engine....that my car does not have a cat on it ....!
To say I was surprised is an understatement : I bought it in May, it had a decent MOT on it and I have put 4,500 hard miles on it, and it seems to drive well.
It was only after I decided to get a code scanner to identify why I had the EML on ( following the advice on this very forum !), that specified the two engine error codes:
2738 Cataytic Converter conversion, Bank 1
2781 Cam sensor , intake
Apparently my exhaust has been 'modified' very well, in that it looks like it has a cat, but in fact it has an empty look-alike !
Anyway, does anyone have experience of fitting a replacement cat that is MOT legal but offers a higher flow rate than the OEM one ( which I am not going to get due to cost !)
I am new to all this code scanning diagnosis but learning quickly.
I have a while to sort this before the MOT but it would be good to release a bit more BHP if possible.
