Just looking at a used BMW for sale via the search on the BMW UK website. The car is being sold by a main dealer, however, there's a caption saying "BMW Finance not available on this vehicle". Does anyone know if this is anything to worry about? I recall a thread on here recently in which someone had an issue with an M4 bought from a main dealer because it turned out not to have the full Approved Used BMW warranty due to a late service. Instead it had an inferior warranty. Could the non-availability of BMW Finance on a used BMW at a main dealer signal some kind of similar anomaly with the car? I'll be a cash buyer so I don't actually care about finance, however, the non-availability of the usual BMW finance packages may be inadvertently flagging some other issue, hence my interest.

I’d imagine it’s because it cannot be sold as an approved used vehicle for some reason therefore BMW wont warrant or finance it

Just my guess mind

I’d say it’s something like this, age or mileage.

Red flag then.

Ask them and let us know what they say.

I'll guess the dealer sold it, finance company had to get involved with a rejection, then told the dealer "we won't be taking that car on again"

It’s normally on older cars (eg a few if the E92 M3’s knocking about in the dealer network state this due to their age).

On such a new car, I’d be wary.

Interestingly, the car in question has disappeared now!

Another car that I'm following (again four years old and about 22k miles) also said "BMW Finance not available on this vehicle" when it was first listed, though it has since changed to show all the usual finance options. It has "Cinch" on the number plates so I wonder if something had to be cleared up there before BMW could offer their own finance or if this car also has a potentially shady past?

It could be an error, but I suspect that the car falls short of acceptable standards. The service history would be my initial suspicion.

I wondered how much it was.

I had a recent battle with Bmw

After 7 months of silence from BMWFS, and supplying Bmw dealer, they finally woke up when I gave them a deadline for passing it all to the FCA.

FCA can fine the dealer/finance company also I guess?

And award the customer compensation?

It was certainly that move that finally got my refund.

Interesting MOT history on the "BMW Finance not available on this vehicle" car...
  • 4 January 2021 - First MOT at three years old.
  • 18 January 2022 - Second MOT at four years old.
  • 29 March 2022 - Third MOT just two months later. Fair enough, maybe the first owner chopped it in at this point and the dealer put a new MOT on for the second owner.
  • 30 September 2022 - Fourth MOT just six months after the previous one. Has the second owner got rid after just six months or has some other drama taken place that has necessitated a new MOT?
