Service reminder mileage countdown

My 69 plate F22 220d's onboard computer shows next service in 2000 miles, but the thing is, last week it was showing 2200 miles, and I've driven 700 miles since that.

So how does this "countdown" work? and without any predictability, how do I know when to book a service, especially some of my local BMW dealership service have to be booked 4 weeks in advance.

Does it not take into account the type of use, rather than just mileage done ?

Yes. I imagine the ‘miles to service’ will increase a little after a gentle motorway run.
I believe the service will still be logged as ‘green’ up to some 1000 miles after the stated mileage.

If you have been doing those 700 miles like a grandad then it will stay or even go up!

Thanks for all the tips. I've since driven about 20 miles short trips, and this morning, it went down to 1800 miles, so it seems it's got a mind of its own.

My M240i is showing next service in 3200 miles or October 2023, thing is it hasn't moved of 3200 miles since that came up and I've done a good few hundred miles in it since.

The next service d7e is brake fluid according to the i-drive but I suspect my current commute is stopping the distance being affected as its pretty light on brake use.
