Is the BMW app useless

Is it just me?
So the app wouldn't let me do anything without updating.
Once the update was done it wants my VIN number to add my car to the app.
The car was already on the app prior to the update.

Have I missed something?

Not just you - mine's just done the same.

The app for my G42 230 is way better than the one that was for my F56 JCW. There's a lot more functionality.
