Collecting it in a few days and it'll be primarily a daily for my wife commuting. Considered Range Rovers but their unreliability put us off. Then looked at M4s but she wouldn't ever use 10% of its performance and looks-wise there wasn't an enormous uplift from a 435d she had previously.

The i8 was something she'd fallen in love with previously so put a deposit down on a used approved one.

I'm starting to get excited as it's a fascinating car and rewatching the Top Gear test vs an M3 plus various other reviews.

They still look special and seem to see less on the roads now

Oh lovely. Any pics, and please do let us have a small review including what it’s like to live with.

I will do. Not collected it yet and hadn't been through prep when I bought it so no pics yet other than a brief vid which I won't post as contains personal info.

Sophisto Grey with grey accents which seems to account for many of the ones on sale. My wife would have preferred one in white but there's very little choice in the market and we don't wish to go outwith BMW network.

I'm getting quite interested in these. There is a chap on Youtube who is fitting a rotary engine to one and is doing an amazing job integrating the electronics. Can you get a child seat in the back?

Test drove one - I thought it was surprisingly quiet (in a good way!) and very civilised, but I couldn’t make it work on a practical level. Congratulations on the purchase!

I think these have 'future classic' writ large all over them.

My friend had one from new until he had to unfortunately sell it to fund his divorce. I only had a brief ride in it but I thought it was phenomenal.

Lovely car but I would have reservations about the doors in a crash.

I'm on my 2nd. Had a coupe, now a Roadster. Really enjoyed them over a 5 year period.

Congrats!

What's your concern? No different from a Lambo or McLaren if it's on it's roof.

Exactly biglaugh that’s the reason I would not buy a car with these doors, plus I can’t afford any of them smile

Not worth worrying about smile

It's genuinely an underrated car. Mine have been fab. As a daily, which mine is, you do need to select parking spaces more carefully because of the doors. However, I've only had to do the hands and knees entry once.

Roadster solves that concern too. smile

Quite fancy an i8 but it'd be an early one and I'm not sure how much life would be left in the battery or what kind of bill I'd be lumbered with to replace it.

Congratulations. thumbup

I think they look great, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy such a stunning car with just a 1.5 litre 3 cylinder engine. eek

If only there had been a non-hybrid model with 6 or more cylinders!

I wonder what the car would be like with zero battery range? Just slower?

To me, one of many things that makes it so special is the fact it has such a tiny engine.

I found mine a bit quicker than my z4 35is - 3 litre twin turbo. It's plenty quick enough for real world driving.

Congratulations

I mentioned on the cars you've been obsessing over as I didn't realise they had become "affordable" and assumed they were still £50k cars.

They still look futuristic and the used car reviews don't provide too much of a scare.
