i8 ownership experience
Discussion
Contemplating one of these as a quick sort of fun car that will also be ideal for my short 5 mile run to and from the station each day.
I would be interested to hear any accounts from owners, past and present. Especially any longer term and recent experience. I realise it is quite a complex first gen tech type of car so am curious as to how they are holding up with age and miles.

Have a look for Facebook groups, most owners are on there. Nice station car though!I would be interested to hear any accounts from owners, past and present. Lots of cars are racking high mileages without fundamental issues; some have had problems. It’s mainly electronics though rather than battery failure. Seems slight overkill for a station run though. Be aware two things: after a while the car will start its engine on its own so as to ensure it doesn’t stand idle for too long but then it will go off after a while. Second, opening the doors in a confined space (station car parks?) means you won’t be able to get into the car.
I worded that post poorly it seems. It's not being bought as a station car. just that the option to do that drive on battery seems more convenient and less mechanically harmful than regularly doing such a short journey in my diesel van or other (much older) ICE cars where they do not get anywhere near operating temp.

You can select e-drive when you start the car so the engine won’t fire up. Default at startup is comfort and the car will fire up at some point to get engine to a reasonable operating temp.
For when you go for a longer drive and want a spirited drive there is also a hold state of charge function so you can warm the engine in a mild way and get everything nice and warm and fully up to operating temp before invoking sport mode.
It’s surprisingly quick far quicker than the numbers portray due to the torque fill and having all the power available at the right time in a usable way.

Bought one in Feb this year, just clocked over 6000 miles driven since purchase - absolutely sublime, can not fault it. Ticks all my boxes as to what aspects are important to me in a car and suits my usage/journey profiles perfectly.
I could eulogize for hours but if you have any specific questions just shout.

I'm on my 2nd- the only car I've bought twice. First sold at 73kmiles and 7 years ownership. They are great but a little fragile in parts. Both AC compressor and condenser fail. Door locks get weak plus electrical heaters fail(I've not had this). Main problem is finding mechanics outside the dealer network as they rip you off big time. E.g brakes fail through corrosion/lack of use with regen braking so for me full set of discs/pads and a drive shaft was £3K from stealers - something that should be under £1K for the size of the components.
Thank you for the replies.
After viewing one a few weeks ago and missing out on a bargain due to my indecisive nature. I got all giddy and picked one up on Friday.
I'm going to start a readers rides thread on it as I've never done one and I struggled to find any such threads while researching.
