I've have my 330e Touring now for just over a year. I really like the car, admitedly it's not the most exciting drive in the world but it was never intended to be!

However, I've found myself thinking a 530e could be a nice upgrade. Bigger, more room and more practical for family duties.

I guess what I'm asking really is whether it is worth the hassle of changing to a 5 and is the engine still powerful enough to move it around? I don't imagine the weight difference is that much as the majority of weight is in the batteries!

You'd be surprised. The 5ers are normally a good 150+kg heavier than the 3ers with the same drivetrain....and not THAT much bigger inside to compensate either.

What I would say though is the fiver is more premium smile All of the look and feel touchy touchy stuff is better than the 3, and the seats are waaaaaaay better.

You do notice the extra bulk when driving it though. Not quite as nimble as a 3.

5 is certainly a bigger car.. I ran a 530e for 4 years (after couple of v8 5ers) and it was very nice. 4 pot petrol engine had enough power.but coming from v8s noticeably not as smooth or proper fast but not at all bad. 3s and 5s have a different character and target market. One more golf gti/ seat cupra market other more luxo barge aston/Bentley (on a budget) style.
