F31 replacement rear light cradle/panel bulb holder

Hello,

A recent service highligted that the "cradle" that holds the offside rear light cluster was corroded leading to the fog light not working, does anyone have any experience of replacing this and is it possible for an averagely handy person to do!

It's a common problem and it's not corrosion but the usual BMW inadequate earth wire issue that goes back to the E46 25 years ago. Basically the earth connector burns out.
What I do is snip the earth wire from the plug, solder another section of brown earth wire to it, run it through the bulb holder and connect it straight to the earth point inside with a ring connector and self tapping screw. About 30 minutes work and 50p.

That sounds more complicated even than replacing the bulb holder!
