Need new winter tyres for the X5

275/40 R21 front
315/35 R21 rears

Neither BMW nor BlackCircles seemingly can supply ‘matching sets’ but rather offer different options front to rear.

Anyone any suggestions or direction on what you run / options available?

Much obliged.

Try Camskill (get them delivered and then fitted locally), MyTyres, Tyreleader, Asda Tyres and Halfords

See what you can find via them

Are you simply swapping tyres on existing or is this a 2nd set of wheels?

Normally you would come down a size of two, as per the door sticker of what fits over your brakes as a smaller. Narrower tiyre with a taller sidewall increases pressure on the road, which provides better traction in snow and ice by cutting through the snow rather than plowing over it

Thank you. Same problem. Yokohama are the only ones who do the rears, but weirdly not the fronts.

Second set. Swapping tyres every six months is such a hassle and more expensive in the long run than just buying another set

Just askin'.

I assume those are the recommended sizes as per your door sticker?

I ask as if you are trying to fit winter tyres in summer sizes that might explain the issues.

In that case, I'd be tempted to sell those and buy a smaller set. If you drop down a size or two, you will have a much greater choice of tyres.

Hello,

If its just for UK use, stick all seasons on it, and forget about it for 3 years.

We put a set of Pirelli PZeros Scorpion Verde on my wife's with the 22's.

Its been absolutely fine in the summer, and the snow.

Got them from Camskill in the correct sizes. and they are available in the 21" sizes you need.

If you are needing full winters for the continent I get that wont work for you.

Have been looking at the same- you can only get approved All Seasons for the 19 and 20 wheels.

With the 20s however, UK cars came with a wider rear wheel, for which an A/S tyre isn’t available - so you can t just pick up a UK set on eBay. Most probably, you will need to import a specific winter set from Germany, or go down to the 19.

Stupot123 - did you have to buy the Land Rover fitment tyres for the 22s or were you able to find a generic set?

Now…why weren’t you a voice in my head in the last 24 hours before I bought a new (refurb) set … of exactly the same set of wheels as is on the car (I was cursing myself for being boring, now it turns out I was also stupid!)

Thank you for the life lesson.

I am sure they were OE Bentley.

3 years on and all is good, they will cope with anything the UK weather can throw at them, absolutely fine in some reasonably deep snow.

Getting a matching set of staggered tyres these days is becoming difficult enough with summer tyres, let alone winters.

Depending on your driving preferences, I find dropping down in width is too compromised for my tastes, as is swapping run-flats for normal tyres.

I get the impression BMW are phasing out staggered wheels. Certainly on non-M models. They've already ditched 5x120 in favour of the more common 5x112, so we'll see.

Either way, did you check the correct winter sizes for the car on the door pillar sticker, as that may well help you out.

Agree 100%.

I've done the exact same on our G05, 22" All seasons and they have been fantastic.

Winter tyres scan be hard to fond for certain size wheels. Dropping to a smaller diameter wheel for your second set usually opens up more choice in tyres available.

I've tried various options over the years, for my wifes CLK240 I bought a 2nd set of wheels (but dropped from 17" to 16" to get a deeper tyre wall) and clad them with winter tyres. I swap then over each spring/winter. She's a sales rep and could find herself on out in the car doing big miles when the weather changes, so I chose winter tyres for her.

When I had a Skoda Yeti 4x4 I again bought a 2nd set of wheels in a smaller size and put Goodyear Vector All Season tyres on. These could stay on all the time but I swapp them with the originals each spring/winter to share the wear of the rubber.

For my 730d I have bought a 2nd set of wheels but dropped from 20" to 18" and put Goodyear Vector All Season tyres on. I'll swap them each year like I do with the wifes car, but when the original tyres wear out I'll just use the wheels with All Season tyres permanently

The sticker in the door opening of my 730 gives the wheel/tyre sizes that will fit

A frind has a 2016 520d, and after various tyre shop experiences went in person to his local Sytner emporium. A bit of haggling and he had a set of winters fitted for not much more than the usual suspects. Cross Climates I think.

Had a couple of coffees, looked at all the new stuff and the car was returned, washed and vacuumed. A very pleasant transaction.

Nope. I did this from corner of desk which in hindsight was stupid, will probably have to live with different tires front to back.
