Hi

Just booked my 530d in as its showing 'oil service'

Ive just booked it in over the phone and been offered an oil service with microfilter and fuel filter for £480

As this sounded steep Ive just looked at the dealers website and they offer oil service with filter for £180 and the same with microfilter for £320 in addition to my full house offering

None of these alternatives were discussed with me

The car has an extended BMW warranty and Im probably selling it just before the warranty runs out in August

Id be grateful if anyone can tell me if the warranty depends on any of the above Id be very grateful. AT the risk of sounding cynical it feels as though Im being taken for a mug

Cheers

Did you check the BMW online service options? You can usually tick different options and it will give you a quote.

You can service the car at any VAT registered garage as long as they use genuine BMW parts or you buy them yourself (like I do, keep receipts) and give them to a BMW specialist instead which will be inline with the warranty.

How old is the car? In another thread someone mentioned "personalised pricing" https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owners/service-wor... it's supposed to be automatic but isn't always applied, especially if you phone up.

The website tends to offer you a menu selection of all possible choices, whereas the salesservice advisor will offer you everything possible - no matter what the onboard computer says it needs.

Although in my case, I didn't trust the supplying dealer to have done the full service they said they'd done when I bought it (for example, the air filter looked ancient), so I booked it in a few weeks later at my local dealer for oil service, fuel filter, air filter, microfilter, brake fluid.

Dropped it off first thing as requested, and got a call at about 3pm to say it was ready...and good news the price is cheaper than quoted!!! Yay, but only because they didn't do the fuel filter or brake fluid as the iDrive didn't say they needed doing banghead

On my 530d, every other oil service was the major one which also included the other filters as well.

I could tell which one was due by looking at what was carried out at the last oil service - if it had everything done, the next one was the cheaper one. If it only had the oil and microfilter done, the next one was the expensive one.

The dealer will be able to tell you which is due.
