My father runs summer and winter tyres on his F25 X3. Both sets coming to the end of life and he's quite like to consolidate to one set of all seasons. But the tricky bit is that he wants to retain run flats. Looks like standard tyre sizes are 245/45/19 and 275/40/19. I can't see anything available but I did wonder if there are any accepted alternative sizes that work or maybe he could change wheel size and start afresh. Any experience?

What are the handbook suggestions for the set up for winter tyres? Typically it's a square set up (with smaller wheels).

It's what did on the wife's X5. Standard is staggered 20s, now on square 18s.

As far as I can see they won't do RFTs in those sizes; none listed where I've looked inc Camskill

So it's either non RFTs; or he runs a square set of wheels, 19x9 all round as an example and finds tyres that fit those wheels and meet the cars requirements

I used to run one of those and switched from summers to winters.

The winters were on 18s and that helped with the ride as well.

I'd suggest a switch to an all square set - 18s or 19s and go all-seasons as mentioned.

Cheers. Does anyone happen to know the all square set up for these so I can check tyre availability? Google seems to suggest the recommended sizes are all variations of a stagger. But I'd be surprised if there wasn't an established square option.

Seems from my digging that RFT all seasons might be rare thing full stop though. If it were me, I'd be ditching the RFT's but he doesn't want to.

They're out there but in very limited sizes

Generally an all square set up wiil be x4 front alloys - just need to ensure that they clear the brakes, if the car has larger Brembo brakes as an example

It might be that he has to go for non RFTs - what is it that's making him not be open to the move?
