330e advice

Looking at 2021 (ish) 330e's with around 85k miles on and have heard about some horror stories regarding the batteries and failures costing 10s of thousands.

Any experience with these would be great to persuade or put me off!

Not ownership experience but I had an extended test drive when I had it on a shortlist along with an X3 m40d and m40i.

Wasn't impressed with the power or the economy and the notch up in the boot floor would have properly gotten on my nerves! I think my test route (which is my commute - 50 miles) got 29mpg, the m40d got 46mpg. In fact the only thing I preferred over the X3 was the newer idrive, and the price, being £7k cheaper despite being newer.

So if you're buying it for economy but have a long commute just be warned that you might not get as good mpg as you'd hope.

A friend just got rid of his 530e, for a diesel XJ, he wasn't impressed with the BMW at all.

Both bought used. He says the 34 mpg average in the Jag is far better than the BMW.

I just read about someone with a five year old car at 45000 miles, who got a £9-10,000 bill for a gearbox rebuild, new 12v battery etc. It's on one of the bimmer forums

That doesn't sound right to me at all. Did he ever charge it or did he only ever to 200 miles a day? My X5 50e is 67mpg over the last 830 miles. Mostly commutes so 67% of the time on battery...which is the idea.

He did charge it regularly at a local hotel, but yes, did more than 200 miles most days, not impressed with it at all.

I would say it is a fault in car selection rather than the car. Unless it was a company car and the favourable BIK. If I did over 200 miles a day then I would have had a diesel. I had a 530e and from memory the battery range was approx. 40-45 miles so that is a lot of miles on a straight 6 petrol!

I agree, but he was very happy with the Lexus petrol before it, guess he thought this would be the same.

The Jag is his first ever diesel so not surprised with the BMW choice, never liked it though.

i currently own 2020 330e on 130,000

bought it 18 months ago on 120.000 (one owner from new , no expense spared , well looked after car)

so far no problems

its not m sport so its comfortable, i charge it maybe once a month

but mainly its ran on petrol

went to manchester from london today and got 50.09 mpg

drove like a granny 60/65 mph
