After recently acquiring a 640d I am wary of keyless theft etc. I have the key in a faraday box. Does anyone know if these cars are pretty hard to steal without tapping into the key? It's a 2014 model.

Thanks

On my Skoda the keyless entry can be disabled by locking with the fob & touching the keyless entry 'pad' within 2 seconds. Is not similar available on BMWs?

I'm unsure il check. But I'm hoping that keeping it in a faraday box is enough

Has your car definitely got comfort access?

There are a few other things you can do if it has. I got BMW to change the old 'dumb' keys on my old 2017 X5 to motion sensing ones. You can even get batteries that go to sleep now for the key fob, which would be a cheaper option.

What's comfort access, is that where you walk up to the car and don't need the key, If so then that's not mine. I have to push the button to unlock the door. I can however start the car without a key.

That is just a standard remote key fob, with a start button on the dash (key needs to be nearby). I have the same on my 2016 335d, no need for a Faraday pouch, as I understand.

Given the age and type of model, I'm not sure it will be targetted. For peace of mind, check with specialist/BMW it has the latest software updates.

I had an 18 month old 530d tourer taken about 12 years via keyless theft (missing an update) the replacement 535d never got touched.

Your's sounds like mine, but I'm having Ghost installed on mine. Usually around 450-500 installed.
