Creeping lacquer failure on BMW alloys

X3 not yet 3 yrs old (30k miles), only ever hand washed by me using decent products, both rear wheels with the dreaded spider leg corrosion rapidly spreading out from the centre caps. At last service I asked whether could be put forward as a warranty issue and was told ‘no one available today to assess, you’ll need to book it in specifically…’ Yesterday, tried to do just that to be told this time ‘no point as it’s wear and tear so won’t be adjudged a manufacturring defect and won’t be covered…’ (without seeing the car or images etc). Escalated to BMW UK who also seemed uninclined to want to intervene but grudgingly opened a complaint.

Anyone been down this road?

Its a bit of a lottery. If it's from the centre out it's generally due to the centre cap rubbing and opening up the lacquer.

However if you have kerb damage elsewhere on the wheel, they tend not to be too interested in helping even if it's not associated with what you described.

A friendly local dealer that you use regularly for servicing can usually push your case hard otherwise it's all very transactional and computer says no stuff.
