BMW E30 325 MPG
Discussion
Friend of mine had one and drove it like he stole it - used to drink like a fish and would struggle to hit 20 - 22MPG on a reasonable run. So to answer the question - not a lot....
That said, when you are looking at an E plater - whats that? 87? That makes the car nearly 20 years old? It was pretty good in its day, though fuel was cheaper then...

I'm very much guessing but i'd say low to mid twenties, the needle doesnt seem to go down too fast!
Its in the care of my old man..... theres always petrol in it when I jump in it and always manage to return it before the fuel light comes on after some top down hooning

Agree with the above ie. Q.How much do they do to the gallon? A. Not a lot!
I used to have a 325i Touring with an Auto'box...lovely little car to drive but fuel consumption was pretty awful...worsened, of course, by the auto box. When I replaced it with a manual Alpina B3 3.0 as my daily driver the difference in fuel consumption between the two was VAST! The Alpina sipped petrol in comparison to the 325i's guzzling habit!

Thanks guys for your replies looking to get this as a daily runner,
will be doing 1000miles a week in it so may have another look round
didnt really want to do the disiel thing any suggestions for a fairly cheap daily runner?
Just trying to save putting the miles on the M5 dont really want two heavy drinkers :O)
M5 averages 18- 22mpg on a 5.0l so the same on a 2.5l :O(

At least in the States, they sold an "e" model with a lower redline which would get well into the 30's MPG (US gallon).
The i motor is more fun but thirstier, just, I used to get about 25 cruise, but I live in open country.
In 89 they made a change to the timing belt pullies such that you don't have to take the mega-torqued nut off the front of the crankshaft to change the timing belt.
Timing belt must be looked after on these cars, like most, they are interferance engines and will bend/break valves if you break the belt.
If the car is a 325 no i, no e, its' essentially an "e" engine, these are better on gas and from what I read are about as fast as the i up to about the ton.
I really liked mine. These are good cars, if you can find a non-rusty one.

Mines a 325i auto convertible. Can get over 35 mpg on a motorway run. Round town early 20's.
Wow! That’s excellent! Mine gets around 15mpg in mixed driving. Maybe I need to take out the performance chip and see if it makes a difference. I have recently refurbished the injectors. Gassing Station | BMW General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff

Mind you, what you spend on petrol is more than made up for in how much fun they are to drive and how little they actually cost to buy now.
