Hello everyone,

I've been very tempted recently to upgrade the stock alloys on my E46 318Ci to Alpina Softlines (17" or 18". I think they would look superb with the black paint and cream leather.

I'm just worried about the possible effect of the new wheels on the resale value of the car (don't want to come across as a boy racer ).

What is the general opinion on this?

Also, looking at a few websites the cost of these wheels with some decent tyres are around 1500 quid. Is this about right?

Cheers for the help.

Chris.

could you not keep the original wheels? £1500 sounds about right.

Alpina wheels are a nice touch, and certainly better than getting next generation model (E90) wheels or, dare I say it, hideous after-market items. As long as you keep it all official BMW or Alpina, and avoid Lexus-style lights or "Angel-Eye" modifications it'll look tasteful.

Yeah I think you're right. The basic alloys do it no justice at all really, various high spec models look much better (ie 330ci etc...). Now to decide between 17" or 18", will 18" be pushing the boundaries of chaviness?

Also is there an issue with respect to the odometer when increasing wheel size, or any other issues i need to be aware of?

If you stick to the reommended rolling radius then the speedo will not be affected. Eg. 195/65/15 to 225/45/17 will maintain the radius, so for 18" you need a 35 profile.... I think Alpina or Schnitzer are your best bets, stick to original BMW or tuner.

Hmm...like those too.

Anybody got any good links for buying wheels?
