Holy sh!t - price of BMW replacement key$!!
Discussion
Recently bought a BMW 330i and one of the keys is not working. Called BMW who said that they don't take batteries etc. and I will need a new key @ £99.53. This will then need programming at the workshop at a cost of £55 + vat.
Am I being screwed or is this really what it is going to cost to get the spare key sorted!!! Anyone any better suggestions??

We bought an '02 325ti last month from a main dealer, it only had one key so they had ordered a replacement which came in the post the next week. We took the key to a local dealer (not the one we bought the car from) and one of the service desk guys programmed the key to the car in less than two minutes - it took longer to walk to the car - no charge. I was told spare keys were about £70.

Simon,
If you bought the car from a dealer then get him to replace the non working key. If private then your stuffed on that front.
It could be the one that isn't working just needs programming. See if you can find an indy who can try to programme it. A lot of the BMW websites will have instructions on programming keys so take a look and try doing it yourself.
If all that fails buy a replacement but console yourself with the fact that my replacement Porsche key was nearly £200 and that is dealer only.

But I've found a quality locksmith company that will do several makes for about half the price.
He purchased the CD rom programmes.
Worth asking in your local area.
