Chaps - I'd been used to a Tom Tom before I got my Z4 with Pro Nav...and the Tom Tom seems much better! In particular I liked the 3D scrolling view of the route as you were driving along it....which doesn't seem to be an option on the BMW Nav.

Until I saw this: -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3D-VIEW-MK4-NAV

The guy claims that you can 'Add' the 3D view to BMW Nav. I'm assuming it's bollox, but has anyone heard of this being done before?

Cheers,
J.

Hi Jezzaa...

I've just bought a BMW with the professional sat nav / TV system and it does show the road in birds-eye view as per the link you quote. It has a fairly recent sat nav disc (06.01) and I'm guessing either version 27 or 28 of the OS.

There have been a few posts on this topic already - do a quick search and one of the posts has a link to an X5 site which details all the necessary OS and sat nav options! Found it:
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=368667&f=72&h=0

Hope this helps!

Hi matey - well my Z4MC is a week old, so I'm hoping mine will have it in that case. So where's the option to change it?

Cheers,
J.

On my 03/03 M5 it has the latest scolling perspective veiw you describe, the disc is 06-02. Not sure if the disc makes all this possible, or if the software needs updating too.
I only picked it up about 3 weeks ago, and it already had all this in it, Result!

Jezzaaa...

Well, you should be sorted then! Not quite sure where the option is on the Z4MC (nice motor by the way - any pics ?!)...
On my wife's 5 series, there are a couple of icons to the left of the main display which can be accessed (eventually!!!!) through the idrive system. Click on the icon that looks like a road and it should cycle through various display options, and allow you to change into 'birds-eye' perspective mode.

My E46 M3 came with this setting already on, and I haven't bothered to change it!

Cheers beer

Hi ya - well I've just had a look and it doesn't offer the option...so it must be an older version. It's going in for it's 1200 mile oil change next week...I'll ask the dealer about it.

And thanks re my car...it is a storming motor! I do have pics but have never worked out how to post them on here!

Cheers,

J.

As someone who's just gone through the process of adding pics to the site... (see the M Power forum)

Go onto a hosting site such as www.photobucket.com and upload your pics... You'll then receive an unique URL for each photo you upload. Once done, you can embed the photos in a pistonhead message by entering [pic] www.website/picture.jpg [/pic]

Now no excuses for not showing off your car!

Try this.

In the setup screen hold the menu button for about 10 seconds. A new screen will come, know as the secret menu. Scroll down to navigation/element, click on perspective to activate.

Hi Olf - ooo tricks of the techies!!

So I have to be inside the SET option before holding down menu? Or can I just hold it down from anywhere?

And while I've got you....how do I set the wing mirror to move down automatically when I shift into reverse gear??! ;-)

Cheers,

J.

Wing mirror rocker switch has to be set to the passenger side I think then select reverse. If the doesn't work then it needs to be set to the driver side! One or t'other.

Yes you have to be in the setup menu before you hold the menu button.

Not a techie just bored watching the Aprentice but keen to pass on some help!

Oh ok...you talked me into it!! ;-)

BTW - that Reg no is not the correct one...just in case you wondered why I hadn't removed it...the dealer got it wrong the first time and changed them over before I left!

Nice wheel choice. To be honest as much as I like the CSL wheels, that kind of wheel is a pain in the a-hole to clean. Your's look easy to clean!

Thanks again for your help Olf...I'll try the mirror thing too.

Yeah - I really like the CSL wheels...but I think they look a bit too big for the car. I like the originals better. I will be changing the rubber though...the Contis that are on it understeer like buggery!
