Looking at getting one for my wife. Had a test drive yesterday and was pleasantly surprised at how good the engine was.

What sort of discount is available on these from a main dealer?

Have a look at Drive The Deal, get a quote and then take it to your dealer.
We have just got 14% off a 330D SE Coupe.

I had already had a look at drive the deal and they offered a whole £600 discount

Think you can get up to 14% of the SE and about 8% off the Sport,a lot more SE's around at the moment,as Sport only released April ish.

Yes that's a bit different to the £5,250 I got as a discount.

It is a 330D, not 335. We did have the chance to buy a 335D Coupe but I didn't feel I could justify the £4,000 difference that they would have wanted for the car in the showroom. Although they were still going to give me a good discount, I think from memory it was going to be £4,800

The car is for my wife who does about 6K miles per year. She is not particularly bothered about performance so the 320D looked to be the best bet.

However, I am going to try a 335D tomorrow. I've already had a demo of a 335i and was impressed.

Need to get a good deal though as, in common with every new car (particularly my own!), I'm certain to take a bath come trade-in time.

Doing 6k miles a year I'd probably stick with a petrol engine as you will get a better deal generally. I went for a 325i SE instead of a 320D M Sport and havn't regretted it for a nanosecond (leased so depreciation etc wasn't an issue as M Sports generally hold their value better). Drove a 320D M Sport tourer today and it confirmed I had made the right choice (despite doing 15k miles per year!)

Unless you keep the thing for a bit over a decade, you're very unlikely to see any saving from running the diesel over a 320i.

Can I suggest you buy an ex management vehicle then. Most dealers have quite a few in stock and they do represent a good saving. I have certainly seen as much as circa £10k off on a reasonably specced 335i/335D M Sport.

Catherine - are you talking about a coupe or saloon? I am struggling to get anyone to talk to me about a 335D Sport at £10K off the list of £37K.

Ok, well I would look at SE's then. I had the chance of 3 possible cars with between £4.5k and £5.25k discount.

Just placed the order.

Got a fantastic deal (better than I was expecting).

Dealing face-to-face (at 6pm when the dealer closed at 5pm ) proved to be a winner.

Car arrives on 22nd. SWMBO now very excited.
