Picking up 330d sport on Sunday...

E46 I presume?

I used both Bridgestone RE040's and Michelin Pilot sports on mine and they're both fine. I did make a huge mistake many years ago and tried putting Fulda Extremos on a 330d. Never again. What an appauling tyre.

2001/51 so assume that is E46. Gonna get it chipped by DMS soonish thereafter.

133k miles - £10k.

Great car! Had mine a year and I still enjoy it, even without a trip to DMS.
I run mine on Bridgesone Potenza RE40's as per factory fit, and these are fine. Mind you, I have a pair of baby seats in the back, and have never gone anywhere near their limits. Though the contents of the seats, regularly find my limits!..Have fun!

If it helps give you an idea on values Ive just sold a 330d sport 2002 52 plate, silver with full black leather 18" later style Mv2 wheels, 88,000 miles fbmwsh clean car and It went for just over £11,000. I had it for sale for 3 weeks so guessing it must have been priced about right .

just a quickie If anyones aftr an ecu remap the guy that did my 335d sport does e46 330d sports for around £200 with cracking gains. ( had 3 done in the past) drop me a pm for his details.

Thanks for your advice. Sounds like a very nice example. Will keep my eyes out for something similar. My other thread centred around, whether a high mileage 330d/320d will cause a lot of expense and stress?, than what i have now or any equivolant. Some have suggested i'd be better off with a petrol bmw instead.

Well picked it up today and it is nothing short of fantastic. the power delivery is so smooth. It does lack a bit in the urgency department (then again my other car is an Octavia vRS + rempa) but I am sure DMS will sort that out.

Very pleased so far.

When you considered and looked at examples, did you consider the possible problems you may have? Blown turbo etc?

Did you do any specific checks before buying?

I only ask as i'm kinda in the same boat and as much as i want a 330d sport, i'm not sure because of the risks of the high milers...

Any advice you can give me will be really appreciated.

I didn't really take that into consideration to be honest. The one I bought has a FBMWSH and was inspected by an independent guy who does work for the AA.

I just took the view that sometimes 5hit happens. If the turbos gonna blow then the turbos gonna blow and I'll need to fix it if that happens.

Thanks for the advice. I pretty much agree. Soon as i get back from hol, i'm gonna sell the Mondeo and look for a BMW 320/330d sport.

I've run a high miler for over a year now. Bought it in Feb 2006 with 97k on the clock at just over 3yrs old.

Now standing just shy of 120k, only work I've had done on it was new suspension bushes (~£140). Still on the original turbo and injectors and the car was recently remapped. Done 2 visits fo the Ring and 2 track days in the UK.

What sort of mpg have you got?

How much difference to the power/economy did the remap make? Ever have it Rolling Road tested?....be very interested to see the figures..

Usually varies between 35mpg and 45mpg depending how much time I spendo on the motorway. I'd say high 30s for mixed driving. 17.1mpg round the Ring

Remap has had no negative effects on economy - some people say economy increases, on mine I wouldn't say it had increased by more than 1-2mpg though. I'd imagine town economy would increase the most (can stay in gear longer after the map).

I had the car rr'ed before and after the remap. Very happy with it even though peak bhp is only 25bhp up. I got drivetrain rumble at higher maps, so backed off a little.




Makes a big difference to performance in the real world though. It really is worth doing if you get a 330d.

I loved it - the car really enjoys being thrown around and the torque really gives you an advantage out of corners. You can sit in 3rd gear for most of the track while you learn it. On a wet track you might come across understeer (I've only had it on a track with my 330d) so just keep on the throttle to keep it cornering harder. You shouldn't notice it in the dry though.

I never did more than two laps in a row without giving the car a break for 30 mins. I have standard brakes which are good, but I was worried about fade - and to be honest I think you'd struggle to get 2 hot laps out of it without fade at the end of the second one. A break is also good for the tyres too as they can get very sticky - particularly so I'd imagine with the summer weather! Well worth letting the car sit idling too after a lap to give the turbo time to cool while the oil is still flowing.
