E39 changing outside temperature

Can you change the temperature settings display from ^F to ^Centigrade done it once cant think how I did it

No sure about the e39 but on the e31 it changes when you press the 'km/mls' button.

Pressn the trip button and hold it in then switch the ignition on and off and release the buttton, that should do it.
