X5 interior fan won't stop

Parked up the X5 on the drive this afternoon, turned the engine off and the cooling system stopped blowing cold air and some of the interior cooling fans stopped. However one fan carried on going and there is air flow in the passenger footwell. Decided to leave it a few hours on the basis this might be a normal function of the car for some reason. However just opened the car again and the fan is still running. Any ideas?
