Just had my first day in the new car...

I say new, it's 3 years old but new to me! It's an Alpina Roadster S (no.41) in sterling grey with black nappa leather and all the bells and whistles inside. First impressions:
1. The engine. It is the best bit of the entire car, it's fan-bloody-tastic. Has torque coming out of its ears but spins up the rev range oh so easily. All this accompanied by the most fantastic noise.
2. The ride. It's hard but not teeth-rattlingly so and soaks up everything bar the really rough stuff (and there's plenty of that around Glasgow). I for one like to know that I am connected to the road so it's still
3. Interior. Very nice and still squeak-free after 3 years. I like the leather off-set with the blue and green stitching and it's surprisingly roomy (I'm 6'2" and fit in with ease) inside. I haven't quite got to grips with all the toys (the Bluetooth 'phone thing is next on the agenda) and could do with an ipod connection but it's a small thing given that the car will take 7cds which should be more than enough music for any trip.
4. The looks. I've always liked the Z4 and the front and rear spoilers add even more purpose in my view. I even like the chav-ish wheels
4. The roof. Unfortunately, this bit I haven't been able to try as it hasn't really stopped raining since I got it
. However, if I will live in the West of Scotland then I can't really expect anything more can I...
All in all though I couldn't be happier

Couldn't agree more. I feel sorry for the person who bought it new, and for those who seem to be taking a bit of a bath on Z4M residuals. Better for people like me though!Hand finished BMW.... what more could you want?

I've always had a soft spot for the Alpina Roadster S, and now the Z4M is out they're a (relative) bargain. I particularly like the Alpina blue/green contrast stitching and the blue instrument dials.
The only shortcoming is that it's manual only. Sure it was alright when the Alpina was launched and it was effectively filling the Z4M's shoes, but now the real deal is out it's a pitty you can't get an auto for that waft-matic Alpina cruising experience.
