My E46 has a fault with the aircon. It's been checked out by an aircon specialist, who diagnosed s leaking condensor. That component has been changed and the system re-gassed.
However, the chap working on it stated that these typically take 750 (ml?) of gas, and that mine stopped at just over 200 (??). As he'd ensured that it was empty prior to working on it, clearly there's something in the system which is preventing it being correctly topped up.

Anyone else experienced this or have an idea?

It can depend on the system used for filling it, many fill up via the high pressure side and the compressor valves sometimes stick.

A way round it is to swap the pipe connections so that it now fills via the low pressure side and start the car with the air con on, [the 200grams will be enough to allow the compressor to run], the A/C Compressor will now suck the gas in you just need to shut the valves off at the correct quantity filled.
