730d, how much
Discussion
hiya everyone,
thinking of changing my 530d tourer, 2001,
i fancy a 730d,
i have 15k and would like to know what sort of deal
i could get; year, mileage,
any info on the 730d, pluses and minuses would be
appreciated, is there more legroom in the back than
the 5 series.
if anyone is interested in my tourer it has done 117k

When are you looking to change as I have a couple coming off fleet but not till the end of the year, both 2003, Silver/Black, high (!) miles but FSH and very shiny. Also in Feb will have a 2004 745il in Blue/Sand Beige, fully loaded with rear tv package/reclining seats etc. Again high miles ( 150/175k )BMWFSH.

Are the gearboxes still a weakness ?
Should one even consider one without a BMW warranty in view of the electronic complexity ?

Hi guys, We have had no real problems with the later 7s, the very first were prone to electrical glitches but seem to be sorted now.
Gearboxes have been fine, a couple have had probs with scrubbing the front tyres out in 25/30k but I think thats more down to our use than the cars.
i-drive used to be a nightmare, crashing every few days and loosing the nav system but again even the 2007 ones are doing that!
Check rear light clusters for water, check front footwells as they get wet as well after windscreen replacement, the plastic trim will lose its colour by the doors from feet rubbing them and the leather seems to stretch a lot on the seat pads so you can tell if the miles are correct. They are V easy to clock as well so look out for mileage v wear and tear issues.
Apart from that they are bloody good value for money if you can find a good one. Its always worth ringing a few of the big main dealers to see if any are coming in on PX, Vines of Guildford, BMW Park Lane or Sytner High Wycombe are the big three who supply the larger Chauffeur companies,
Best of Luck
