Hi chaps
My 330d has developed a shudder @ 2000 rpm or 80 mph it's an auto/sequential but driven in D 99% of the time you can accelerate through the shudder and it's ok the turbos firing fine it seems like possibly it could be either a problem with 4th to 5th gearing ratio or possibly some sort of air/high pressure filter problem anyone got any ideas? Cheers Jon

Hi,
I have got exactly the same problem! Does your car vibrate excessively at idle too?
A mechanic mate of mine hooked it up to his Diagnostics and it came back with a code of P1613 Engine Stability Control, but he can't find what that means as BMW don't release all of the codes as they want you to go to the dealer.
I got the AA to come out too and they had no joy either, said it was safe to drive but I needed to take it to a dealer. The AA thought it might be a knackered injector.
Next I rang a company I found on the web that sells BMW diagnostic kit and he looked up the code and said it was the CDI control unit on the ECU. I've got mine booked in at a BMW independent on tuesday next week. I'll keep you posted, let me know what you find out.
Cheers, Alex.

Hi,
Well it turned out to be a faulty injector that was causing the problem. It's been sorted and now it's so much better and runs just as it should.
I was charged £560, the part was just under £200. He also removed all of the injectors and tested them on a test bed too. Thankfully, only one needed replacing.
I might be getting a bit too excited but I have done 112 miles on less than a quarter of a tank of diesel whereas before I only got about 90 per quarter tank.
Good luck.

Nice to hear you got it sorted I wasn't so lucky. Last monday without any warning I lost all drive in the middle of a busy crossroads in Wrexham. I had the car recovered to my local independent BWM specialist who found aluminium debris in the gearbox filter. They tried replacing the pump filter and oil but that didn't work so i'm 3 grand lighter now after having a new gearbox fitted
.
Needless to say not impressed the auto gearboxes on 3 series are sealed units supposed to last the lifetime of the car. I've fired a letter off to BMW asking for compensation but I think we all know what the answer will be and when I've had my 2 years warrantee out of the box i think i'll be driving a Merc next
