Which oil for 530i?

Hi all,

Can anyone clear up some confusion for me? My car is due an Inspection 1 in the next 1500 miles or so and I'd like to supply my own oil to reduce the cost.

But which oil should I use? I went onto the Castrol website which said that if my car was a 2000-2001 530i, I should use Castrol Edge 0W40. But if my car was a 2001-2003 530i, I should use Castrol Edge 0W30.

My car is a December 01 530i (But of course was built several months prior) so falls under both!

Which should I use and why?

I work at a dealership, and the oil we use is Castrol SLX (and we charge the earth for it!!!), we use it across the range, exept for M Power cars, which use Castrol TWS. Hope this helps...

Which grade do you use? Edge is the replacement for SLX but its the grade I am unsure on.

Castrol SLX 0w-30, (sometimes called LL04)
Castrol TWS 10w 60 for M-Power cars...
