335i Drive

Yippee, the E46 is going in for discs and pads on Saturday so I have a loan 335i to play with on the roads I grew up on. No speed cameras, very few police and much wide open throttle.

I'll let you know what I think.. Yum, they'd better not let me down...

I had a test drive in one a while back - even with someone from the dealership in the passenger seat, I thought it was a fantastic engine - sounded good for a turbo car as well. I'd really like a LSD equipeed one when they have come down in price on the 2nd hand market

The 335i Engine/Exhaust does sound great.

I opted for the E92 335d and I'm very pleased with it.
I've only had it a month but I have had the engine remapped by Emaps up to circa 340bhp and 700nm of torque.
It pulls like a rocket and is a great drive using the "manual" gear change on the steering wheel, really making the engine/turbos work.
I have not timed myself yet but the car should now acheive a 0-60 of circa 5s and 0-100 in circa 11s.

335i touring is an awesome all rounder - the sound it makes was a very pleasant surprise

Well it should be good fun. It'll only make me want to re-map the 330d which I'm still umming and erring about. Must remember to take my driving license, wouldn't want to fall at the last fence...

I've spent the last 2 years planning the replacement of my current car. Having ordered a 335i, I'm now already thinking about what I'm going to replace it with in 3 years time.

(oh and what to replace my wife's car with in parallel)

I have a plan in place for the family car. With any luck the 330d sport touring will morph into a 535d touring defo DMS'd in about 2 years time. I'll be on the lookout for one loaded to the gunnals with goodies like the 330d I have now.

Hopefully the 330d should still be worth a reasonable amount when it's 5 years old with 60k on the clock. It has every conceivable extra so should stand out on the used market.

1. 335i arrives in September for business and family trips
2. wife's Freelander gets replaced with Defender 90 for muddy dog and kid outings
3. £10k on Elise type to stick in garage (when built) for weekend smiles

...looks like my perfect real world garage

That sounds like a perfect stable to me. Get rid of that freelander pronto. nasty things. Thirsty, depreciation heavy, incapable off road. I hope you've got a diesel? The V6's are a nightmare to sell.

I'm still pondering about my commuter. I'm doing 12k a year. The 320d is as boring as hell. I may only have to do the commute for a year and then maybe no commuter driving for 2 years so I'm stuck. No garage either so it would be street parking for the candidate. Not sure I can justify a z4m roadster/coupe which I really fancy... Not sure an elise will be comfortable enough + stree parking...hmmm too many variables.

lol at 320d being boring

I'm in the 47th (of 48) months of driving an A3 2.0 TDI. The 335i is going to be a rather different experience

BTW, Freelander is ok (TD4) at lugging family, bikes, dogs around. Totally reliable and pretty much flattened out depreciation wise now.

Buggers. The 335i was sold.

Then I got a whiff of a 325 convertible... but it was due to go out on a test drive

So I ended up with an 07 120d.

Hold up - not so fast. The car was surprisingly well built I thought. Knocks spots off a golf in the department and the engine was a stunner. I guess it's the 177bhp job and I must say I was mightily impressed.

The ride was dire though. Mainly country roads - felt like I was in a tumble drier. Even on smooth roads there was far too much jitteryness. I find the ride of my 330d sport quite firm but this was something different. It made your inside bounce all the time. Didn't like it at all.

Great engine though..!

Did you notice if it was a sport or SE spec??

It didn't look overtly sporty. no ///M badges anywhere like my sport - how would I tell?
