Clarkson on the new 335 Convirtable

I have not driven this car yet but I was thinking of booking a test drive. Is it that Clarkson just hates Bee Em's or should I be wary of this car?

I am particuarly concerned about the residuals. Any thoughts?

i read that and had a good laugh . I love Clarkson.

But come on, nobody but nobody takes him seriously. He is the last person on earth who should influence your buying decisions.

I've not read the article, but have to say that I'm not keen on the E93. Primarily, they have an overly long boot to accomodate the hard top. This makes the car look awkward, and upsets the balance of the E92. Secondly, the price is incredibly high for a 3 series. There are several that I've seen over the weekend that have been £50k or thereabouts. I suspect that the depreciation may be relatively high over the first couple of years.

The E46 cab is a far prettier car IMHO and I'd rather have a late 55 or 06 plate E46 and put £25k in the bank.

I know where you are coming from on this Matt. I really fancy a convirtible and a soft top just does not work for me for every day motoring so I will try the new 3 series. I have a deposit in for an M3 Convertible which I may also consider.

I just spent a weekend driving one of these and it is the most disappointing bmw ever, full of scuttle shake, skipped over bumps and didn't have any of the road holding of the coupe. The engine is amazing as you know, but it was too powerful for this car. It also felt heavier than my A8

I owned a e46 54 plate 320cd M convertible and to this day is one of the worst handling cars i have drove. It flexed terribly on twisty roads and crabbed and tramlined on anything other than a perfect surface. The only reason i kept the car for so long was because it was so bloody nice to look at in imola red and when the sun came out and the roof was off i was happy. The new convertible to me is quite odd looking, mainly due to the the huge overhang where the new metal roof has to be stored. I find the car looks to long and flat on the sides not at all in proportion. I was a massive BMW fan years ago but i now feel they build far to many cars "i remember walking into my local BMW dealer years ago and there was a 3 series,5 series,7series and the 8 series that was about it.Theres bloody hundreds of cars to choose from now and i especially hate the way my dealer goes about doing business. In my opinion BMW build so many cars now they have lost all my respect as a "prestige brand". I can remember the days when you could run a BMW for a while and get your money back, not any longer. The 6 series stood out to me the most for depreciation which was utterly appaling. This isnt a stab at BMW in anyway just someone who is very dissapointed to see such a great badge being ruined.
