Hi Guys

My BMW 530d won't start.when i turn the ignition key to start position lights on the dash board light up but the car wouldn't start. if you keep trying for a long period of time suddenly it starts & starts ok for a couple of days and the same thing happens once again. Can anyone help me in this regard.

Sounds like it's a fuelling problem, possibly on the low pressure supply from the tank to the high pressure circuit. I presume it starts fairly quickly if it was running earlier and the longer you leave it the worse the problem becomes suggesting fuel draining back to the tank.

I had exactly this with my 330d. AA man sprayed carb cleaner into air intake and engine tried to fire, immediatley suggesting fuel starvation. ( altho indy said not advisable with a diesel) An hour later when tow truck came the damn thing started. BMW diagnostic could find no fault. My indy mech thought it could be water in the fuel or one of the three fuel pumps failing. I went for the former and gave it a diesel treatment. In the meantime I had the Maf sensor replaced due to another problem, but everything seems ok now. Does it rev to red line normally?

Obviously not fuel then! Did you drive thru heavy flood recently? Lead from solenoid to starter may have got wet and caused a short, only thing I can think of. Z

Is it manual or auto?

If auto maybe a dodgy inhibitor.

If either a dodgy solenoid or starter motor.
