Hi,

Im looking for a new car which will be my only and main car which will be doing 16,000+ per year. Ive been swaying towards a Golf GT TDI but its rather dull. In a few years i hope to get a S2000 as i think there great.

Anyway in the mean time i was thinking about getting a 1.9 Z3. I know there not that fast but i need acceptable MPG. Would a Z3 fit the bill, would a 1998 car be reliable?

Anything shockingly expensive to fix?

The all important question is will i fit, ive never been in a Z3, im 6"2 and a bit so practically 6"3. I dont fit in a Mk2 MX5 so ive ruled that out. Any ideas?

Any other bad points about the cars?

Would £5000 get me a decent 1.9?

Is there any editions that look better that still have a smallish engine (i like the flared wheel arches and stuff like that).

Thanks

StuB

I know taller people who are ok and shorter people who are not ok in a Z3. Try one and see for yourself. Make sure you're left knee's ok on the centre console too.

Engines & mechanicals are fairly robust on the 1.9's. There are a few regular faults to look out for on all Z's like the mirror mounts, occasionally some water in the footwells & boot etc..

I'd recommend a search on www.zroadster.net for lots of model specific information and probably some more cars for sale.

Make certain that the car you choose to test has the sports seats. With the ordinary ones you sit "on" them and not "in" them. Otherwise even at 6'.3' you should have no problems. Face-lift models, post 1999, have lined hoods and broader rears which IMO make the car look better from that angle. Ask at www.zroadster.net for opinions. They are a great honest bunch there.
