E36 328i/325i inlet mod

Hi guys i currantly own an Alfa 156 V6 and am looking to change it for a nice 328i sport. I drove one the other day and it felt about the same performance wise to my Alfa. Is it true you can change the inlet manifold to an E36 325i manifold and with a decent airfilter/Map you can see upwards of 220bhp? Has anyone done this, and are 325i inlet manifolds gold dust now as a result? Any help would be great thanks!
