Hello
Has anyone got an opinion on the new 177bhp 520d. I thought it could be the car to replace my E39 530d auto (193 bhp). I want to return to manual transmission and thought the performance should be about the same but with much better fuel economy.

I'm running an auto 520d with the old (current) engine and I'm suprised at how it goes, the new one will be great, more power, quicker, greener and leaner!!! the first few will arrive at the end of this month and the start of October when I've had a go I'll let you know!!

I have a good friend who gets BMW company cars and he had one of these recently and I was very impressed with it all round as a comparison to my 530d and 320d. Got to be highly recommended.

Thank you for your replies

Would you suggest the Sport or SE model? I certainly think the Sport looks better but am concerned the ride may be too firm and the wheels prone to kerbing. Which has the better residual value? I would definitely pay for leather on an SE but quite like the standard Sport interior with black dashboard trim

residuals are better on the M Sport and the ride suits the car very well, I doubt you'd find it hard. Also the standard 18" Alloys are very hard to scuff like the SE 17"'s but the optional 19"'s only have to see a kerb for them to scuff biggrin

Although my new one has full leather I do prefer the standard half leather. If you don't like the aluminium interior then have a look at the dark maple trim t'is very nice yes

Thank you for your help
I think it's going to be a 520d Sport Touring in Deep Sea Blue with standard interior and black trim. No extras except paint!

I have the saloon in Deep Sea Blue and it looks the part! I had a Space Grey SE touring before which looked very boring in comparison.

Good choice!

Where are you ordering your car from?biggrin

Is a good choice, also the Touring will be easy to sell on once you've finsished with it as they're quite hard to come by at the moment. The police seem to have a lot of E61TO's so no wonder it's difficult getting my customers one.

They stopped building them thats why. The new engine run has started now so they should become available soon.

Surely you mean extended leather. Full leather seems a bit OTT on a 520!

As standard on a sport you get Flashlight cloth/leather - The edge of the seats and armrest is in nappa lth and the bit where your bum and back are is in cloth, for full leather you choose between Dakota, Nasca and Exclusive Nappa.

Extended leather is when it will cover half or all of the dashboard, which on a 5 (exept M5) is only available if you spec it as an Individual which would be OTT on a 520d.

Nasca, don't you mean Nappa? You'd have to get the comfort seats for that & we're talking an extra £2000. If it's going to be a low spec car I'd suggest the fusion artificial leather for £150.

Slightly o/t, have you got any build slots left for an E93CA for Q4? I've got two sold but can't get a build date FFS ranting so looks like 08 delivery.
