335i/335d fuel consumption

Hi - in my 335d I'm getting circa 34mpg on a combined motorway/city driving. 25 miles on the M40, 20 miles inside the M25 each way each day. Cruising at up to 100 on the m-way though. Alternatively it will do near 40mpg at a steady 85. I'd suggest 11 mpg is quite a difference if you are doing 20K mile per year - the hassle of refuelling if nothing else. Love riding around on a huge wave of torque all day though I miss the M3 and the track days...

Only 11mpg??!Given the choice of 20mpg or 31mpg that does make a lot of difference....
But a 335d unless you're doing puny mileage.
Actually, buy a 335d anyway - the 335i will depreciate like a stone weighed down with lead in plus 3 gravity.

Why do you say that? I am buying on a touring so yes there would be a slight difference but surely not that much. The 335i is still a reasonable substitute to the S4's and maybe not so much RS4's.iMungo said:

Hmm, not very impressive. My 330iSE doing similar is averaging 33mpg, plus I get to enjoy the wonderful engine, sound and less nose heavy handling. Not quite the same shove in the back though!In the first 1,000 miles from new my 335D managed about 28 mpg, but the vast majority of those miles were urban trips of no more than 3 miles to work and back with a few 30 mile trips along the Autobahn to visit relatives, normally at around 110-120 mph. I then went on holiday where I put another 2,000 miles on the car, nearly all Autobahn miles at speeds between 90 and flat out. Over those 2,000 miles the average was 38.5 mpg. Not at all bad for a car with the turn of speed that the 335D has.
I was thinking of changing to the petrol next year when I get a new car but now I will be staying with the diesel. If only they did a manual......

I wanted an auto box which is standard on the 335D E92 Coupe.
I therefore looked at the 335D Coupe first, liked the car and bought one. Not tried the 330D to be honest.
I've now had the car remapped up to circa 340bhp/650nm of torque, though this does not appear to have had an adverse effect upon fuel consumption.

Went for the 335D over the 330D/335i for a number of reasons. The main reason though was that I wanted something fast with good economy hence a diesel. I drove the previous generation 330D and although it was quick it didnt seem as fast as something with 230odd bhp should. When I took the 335D out I was very impressed. Haven't had mine played around with yet and may wait until I trade it in next year and then get the new one done.
It has nothing to do with snobbery and saying my engine is bigger than yours, I simply like driving fast and the more power the better. Plus the fact that I'm in the Army in Germany and can play on the Autobahns makes it even better. Oh and the fact that because I can buy tax free I only paid £30k for my 335D SE Coupe, with leather, 19" wheels, upgraded stereo and USB connection, saved over £10k on UK book price!

Pre DMS my 335d was averaging 450 - 470 miles per tank. Surprisingly it's now averaging around 500 miles and no I've not started driving like Miss Daisy. The DMS treatment has turned back the clock 20 years for me - love blasting away from lights leaving people for dead. Childish, but great fun.
For those mentioning 330d - had one before - awesome car as well. 335d just felt like a good alternative to a Cayman/Boxster (was about to have a mid life crisis) in terms of speed and has the obvious space/room benefits.
All that said - the 335i sounds fab. It's probably the only downside for me with the diesel - no real noise to speak of.
