Essential Options ?

Thinking of buying a new BMW 335i M Sport Coupe (Manual). In order to try and help preserve residuals as best I can, what would you consider as essential options ? I have been round a few dealers but feel they just try and get you to spec up cars to increase their profit in the deal.
Are 3yr service packs worth going for as well ?

Another essential option is the Aux Port for the stereo - and I reckon that in a couple of years most new cars will come with Aux ports for MP3/4/iPods as standard...

Prof navigation? You've got to be joking!! Yes it will make the car "easier" to sell, but there's no way on earth you'll get the money back it costs in the first place. So unless you actually want it yourself, don't waste your money. A £100 TomTom arguably does a better job anyway.
Only essential options really are full leather and a decent stereo. The rest is all money down the pan when you come to sell, so make sure you really want any other options you specify because you'll be the only one paying for them!

I have had a glance at the BMW used car locator and ones with a useful spec - Nav, Leather, bluetooth phone etc seem to retail around the £35k mark. I can get one from coast2coast cars, motorlogix or Broombroom for just over £35k brand new and good spec which seems like the best thing to do. This is about £5k off retail.I am still deciding what car to buy and am torn beween a Z4M roadster or 335i Coupe. I used to have a Z4M Roadster but wrote it off trying to avoid a fluffy bunny down a back country lane. Bunny got away I suffered breaks in hands, right shoulder and arm. Can't drive for another 4 weeks so in no great rush to buy. I am hoping that in a few months dealers will be desperate to off load stock and a good deal should be able to be picked up.
If I bought a Z4M it would be a 6 month old example as these appear to loose £12k - £16k in first 6 months.
Oh decisions / decisions.
Agreed, buying nearly new off a main dealer is not good value anymore with all the internet deals on new cars. To beat the worst of the depreciation, you really have to buy something over 12 months old privately. Or just accept that you'll be taking a massive hit on the resale 2-3 years down the line.

Sat Nav I'm sure will be essential for resale, it's a shame it is so woefully slow and badly designed, the system in the previous E46 was streets ahead in performance
Thats the way to go, IMHO its only comp/fleet buyers who should buy new there is no reason why a private buyer should buy new unless its say like the Audi R8.
People get on the enviro band wagon and buy these new Polo Blue motions yet the savings your making in economy and RFL is totally negated by the loss in the car asset value + loss of interest of the cash you use to buy it (or interest on the cash your borrowing).
Buy 2nd hand and let those rich folk go for the new cars they can afford the depn hit most of us would rather save that cash and have a few 5 star holidays a year!!!

Hi folks, Just picking up on this thread. I "downsized" from an E46 M3 cab to an "ex- BMW management" E92 352i coupe. Based on the price as per the BMW car configurator, I "saved" approx. £7K on the new car price along with the options.
The car was about 9 months old with 5k miles on it and it came with :-
Montego Blue metallic paint
Sat Nav Prof (talk about weird routes!)
19" wheels
Leather
Bluetooth with Telematics
Sliding Arm rest
Aluminium trim
I would have liked TV and DAB, but since it was a "take it or leave it" deal, I took it!
The good thing about it is the amount of "standard" fit equipment these days, like climate control, bi-xenon headlights, CD player, multi-function steering wheel etc all of which used to be extra
