Looking for BMW 850 knowledge.

Hi Guys, just been offered a green 1991 BMW 850,FSH,118k miles for a really good price BUT it needs Rear Bushes? How much would i be looking at to get the bushes done??

I ran a 1991 850 last year few a few months, and found it brilliant, but also very scary. Mine had 65,000 on the clock with full service history.
It was very quick, ran well and did everything i wanted of it.

However, the fuel consumption was bad, 20-22mpg on a motorway way, averaging 65mph, 13-16mpg for normal driving, and i don´t wear lead driving boots either. I was also scared of something expensive breaking, as i don´t have the luxury of deep pockets to repair things. Remember, this was a 60K car when new.

I wouldn´t have another one unless my financial situation changed, but i did love wafting about in it on a good day.

I'm guessing its the large bushes in the long trailing arms where the arms are bolted to the rear of the sill. This is a favourite bush that fails around that mileage. They are about £70 for a pair and a good indie should charge about £80 to fit them.
The other thread has more detail about typical running costs. Dont be scared of owning one. They rarely surprise you with enormous bills. You'd have to be very unlucky. Just find a knowledgeable indie and keep away from main dealers!!

I think it really depends on which rear bushes you mean. There are a good number of bushes both on the front and the rear of the car. Most common failuers are the rear tie bar bushes on the front upper arms which can be upgraded with the E34 M5 items.

Can't help with any info on the 8 series but I followed an 840Ci this morning for a short while when I pulled out of my drive (B2133 area south of Horsham) and all I can say is what a car

Light metalic green, absolutely spotless and a lovely example.
