As predicted they said that there is nothing wrong with the gearbox and that all 3.0 engines have stiff boxes. As for the oil light, they say they've had to put a litre of engine oil in, only had the car week and its used 1 litre of oil??????? Either that or the oil wasnt checked before i took delivery of the car?

Be careful - does your engine still have the dipstick or does it show the oil level on the bc?

Called them today because when i collected the car yesterday the service manager looked up on their computer system and apparently its never been looked at by bmw central birmingham so basically they've supplied me a car with a so called 124 point check without lifting the bonnet, pretty amazing feat if you ask me

PS not sure about the dipstick i'll take a look now

I'd want a little more than that. try 3 years free servicing. Got to be worth a try or say you'll go to BMW uk.

Tell them you want it sorting or you'll reject the car.

I had an M3 that was allegedly an approved used car. It hadn't had the AUC and ended up costing the selling dealer over £1k to put things right that should haveen put right before sale.

Are they part of St2atsto%e by any chance?

Later Generation Engines use a system called cbs that allows the dealer to read info straight of your key (such as brake pad condition and oil level/ quality). On Z4 models there is a well known problem regarding the wiring to the oil level sensor. They should be aware of the problem (the info is available to the dealer) - however they may haved messed it up!? Meaning they have now overfilled (common result of the problem). Check if you have a dipstick.

Your not blind - It won't have one. Ask your dealer if they have checked if the qlt/toens (oil sensor) is working correctly. If the car is new, and they had to top it up with one litre of oil, chances are that they have now fecked it up - and you have 1l more oil in your engine than you should have (not good!!). PM me if you need more details regarding the problem.

Can someone please enlighten me a little about the 'stiff gearbox' issue?

I'm not sure, but this sounds familiar...

Apparently its pretty standard with BMWs, specially with the 3.0L engines so the tech bloke from bwm reckons
