Sorry another X5 question

Does the 3.0d sport really do as many miles to the gallon as the spec says?

Looking for real experiences.

NO

Over 30,000 miles I averaged 26.something (it was chipped and I was always trying to headbutt the horizon!)

Didn't matter it was a bloody great car

I then moved to a 4.8iS

Over 35,000 miles (in 1 year) I averaged 18.6mpg

That was a ing fantastic car

According to parkers the 3.0i and the 4.4i have virtually the same mpg?

Why bother with a 3.0, go for the 4.8 then

Exactly my thoughts - plus the 2nd hand ones typically come more fully loaded

But somehow I just cannot understand how the 3.0i can only give the same mpg as the 4.4i - did the 4.4i come out after or something so used improved technology???

About 22 - 24mpg according to the trip computer thing (new model 3.0d)

The 3.0 petrol has a fairy decent power plant, its ok once it gets going, but to get it there is the problem. It never quite satisfied me, not my first choice but was too cheap too ignore. You do have to thrash it while the v8's are a different story. V8's need less efort to move with power to weight different as well, hence similar MPG figures. 4.6/4.8 the way to go.

I averaged 23mpg in my 4.4 sport X5 . Can't speak for the 3 litre but would say that even if there was 5mpg different is the 3l still worth it? I loved the my X5 just wasn't big enough for the family!

Recently bought a 4.8 & its been averaging around 22mpg to date. That being over around 3000 miles of which 2000 city centre & 1000 motorway.

Shifts ok as well

Well my 05 diesel has averaged 30.3 mpg since I last set it over 1800 miles ago. Mixture of driving but never more than 3 miles at a constant speed.
According to the handbook the torque of the diesel and the 4.8 are identical at 500Nm. You choose.

Had both cars and you really can't compare the two.

The diesel is the best all round everyday car no doubt (and the one I would chose every time), but the 4.8 is in a different league.

On the way to Le Mans last year I had 150mph in the 4.8............the diesel won't touch the V8 for sheer grunt

Blmey i can't get that sort of economy from mine struggles to return 17MPG. I've just converted to gas and it is very cool I get 85 litres for £40 and 250 miles REEEEEEEEEsult.

My 4.4 managed 150 on the way down to the 24Hr nurburgring week before Le Mans passed two mates doing 90 they said "Christ nearley sucked us off the road it's like a block of flats going past at warp speed" then they passed me at 180 followed by an E type!
