Yes, at last a BM I like the look of. The outgoing 2004 E46 coupe was nice and I haven't liked much since - but now there's the 135 Coupe - 3 litre straight six ( 
) with 305bhp. I think they've got this one spot-on right. The 120d will be £21k, the 135 about £29k.

My housemate was commenting on how good it looked on Sunday evening - I just said nope, you're wrong mate (but then he thinks his bug eyed Impreza WRX looks good).
Its too short/awkward/frumpy. The E36 and E46 coupes are much better looking cars; okay, I've got some bias, but I think the E36 is still the peach of the last 10 years of small BMW "family" coupes.

I think it looks like a cross between some kind of crap Rover and a Hyundai Accent.
The proportions are just all wrong, especially from the side & rear 3/4 view.
As to a nice looking recent BMW - look no further than the Z4C IMO - ( I am slightly biased though ).

As to a nice looking recent BMW - look no further than the Z4C IMO - ( I am slightly biased though ).
Let's not forget one thing - beauty is in the eyes of the beholder! As it happens, the Z4M or non-M Coupe is probably the only car that BMW have launched over the past 5 or 6 years that would make me look over my shoulder at as I locked the door and walked towards my house. Not keen on the front end though. And while the new 1-series isn't exactly beautiful, it looks much closer to how the E46 looked (just a bit stubbier) and overall, I like it. It's as much a feeling of relief as anything else, because some of their other efforts are (imho) pig-ugly - notably the saloon version of the current 3-series. I'm still having to force myself to like the 5-series (while the E34 and E39 were absolutely right in their times) and the 7-series has had its styling criticised by pretty much one and all (nice inside though). X5 - instantly forgettable, like a face-lift of the original. X3 - I ordered one when it was announced but cancelled my order - and lost my deposit - because when I saw it in the flesh I didn't like anything about it. And mad though the M6 is, for £85,000 odd it's at the very least underwhelming compared to the likes of the Aston V8, Audi R8 or Maserati Coupe which you can buy for similar money.I think it looks like a cross between some kind of crap Rover and a Hyundai Accent.

I've always liked coupes as a concept, and rear-wheel drive, and my budget next time round would probably be under £30k. Can't think of anything I prefer the look of than the new 135. But it's just my opinion FFS, no need to accuse me of being insane just because I like the look of something. Hey - some people marry ugly women (in the opinion of others)

Insane was meant in the nicest possible way, but perhaps a little harsh on reflection, I didn't mean to cause offence.
Each to their own at the end of the day I guess as you say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
The 1 series is a bit like a horrible piece of furniture left behind when you move in a new house.You think about getting rid of it ,you postpone then after a while it starts to grow on you and you end up thinking yes it's not that bad after all.
1st impressions are the truest.Butt ugly definitely.

The words "pot", "kettle" and "black" come to mind.But just looked at the dimensions.
How the hell have they managed to make the 1 series Coupe LARGER than the old E36 Coupe, and yet still manage to bring something out that looks incredibly ungainly?
