My dad is looking at getting a 335d SE Saloon, but his max budget is 24K, does the PH collective think this is realistic? He isn't too bothered on spec / colour / mileage.
We have had a look on the BMW approved used site & Autotrader, but prices range from £25,995 - £30K+
He might be better off getting a 330d SE or waiting until next year?

Worth a haggle IMHO. However, if the budget is maxed out, he can't go wrong with the 330d either. It's a great car and I know that my 330d was giving me 10mpg more than my 535d in exactly the same driving conditions.

IMO on a car the level of the 335d the Professional Nav (which comes with the Idrive screen) is a must even though many agree the Tom Tom will be just as good. Xenons again a must (think this car may already have them although not listed) as it has the headlight wash...give them a call and find out.
Generally, the M Sport versions always hold their values more than SE's.

Pay the extra and get an M-Sport, the ride is so much better as it uses Bilstein gas shocks and comes with Pilot Sport 2 zero pressure tyres.
Plus the seats in the SE are awful and the seats in the M-Sport are the best seats I have ever had, made the recaros in my S4 look ad feel pants, and put the seats in the 535d sport to shame too.
I would definitely want Prof nav in a 335d, the whole package with bluetooth etc. makes it a very desirable car and will easily sell, people are sort of expecting it now, in another 2 years not having it will be a big mistake.
Oh, I nearly bought an SE 335d touring as it was a good price, that had no nav, but after getting finance figures it worked out £8 a month more for that car (which was £29k) over a 335d m-sport with all the toys costing £34k, all because the residual value, they gave a balloon of £8k on the SE with no nav and £16k on the M-sport, which I think says alot, remember finance houses off loading cars tend to dictate the market value more than anything, yeah it may be worth £15k but of they dump loads out at silly prices no buyer is going to argue they want to pay more.

If he is financing any of it just add the extra to the balloon, £3k on a balloon will be under £20 a month extra.
This would be a bargain upgrade for someone with a 330d with a knackered engine. Not sure what the mounting positions are for the engine but I'm sure someone could make it fit:

It's a different engine to that used in the 335d having a cast iron block as opposed to the 335ds aluminium type, but I'm sure someone could make it fit OK.
Be a lot of fun in a kit car.
