E46 330ci sport Auto - quality of down-shifts?

Bought my first BMW in the summer, an E46 330ci sport coupe with an auto box. It's an approved used car from a BMW main dealer now with 31000 miles on it, registered in 2002. I'm chuffed to bits with it apart from the way the auto box changes down into second as the car slows to a halt. There's a fair "bump" into second from third, which reduces slightly when the motor/box are fully warmed up. I know the car is still under warranty, but before I take it to my local dealer, I wonder if anyone has any experience of this problem? If it's a case of "they all do that Sir" fair enough, but if the box is about to go pop, I think I ought to get it looked at...

Any useful comments would be appreciated. Please don't tell me I should've just bought a manual car - I'm an LBK amputee and can only drive auto's.

I bought my then 6 month old non-sport in June 2003 at 6k and about 3k later it clunked when arriving at a junction or roundabout, particularly after a motorway type run as we were driving round France.

I took it back to the dealer (who didn't supply the car but it was still under BMW warranty) and they told me they then 're-programmed' the gear box and 40k miles later it still seems OK.

Thanks for the info. The car has had it's gearbox "re-programmed" today. I've only driven it from Dealer to home (circa 3 miles) but in those stop - start miles it seemed noticably better. Time will tell...
