New 3 series Aux input for MP3 player. Any recommendations?

My Dad's just got a new 3 series coupe. In the cubby box behind the armrest there is a small plug socket. BMW describe it as an "Auxiliary input point for auxiliary playing devices (eg MP3 player)" . Has anyone used it? I would be interested in getting my Dad an MP3 player for Chrimbo and wondered if there was a recommended one. Does the headunit see it? i.e. are you able to control it from the dash/steering wheel?

Assuming it's the same set up as my Z4C then it simply connects to the headphone socket of the Mp3 player (just a normal headphone jack).

There is no control other than the players own.

I've found the quality to be pretty good (considering an Mp3 is a compressed (lower quality) file

Thanks Joey. It is just a small headphone type socket so sounds straight forward enough.
