Been offered a 1995 E34 BMW 525SE for £600 with 180k on the clock.

She drives really well, no knocks from engines or suspension, no oil leaks, recent tyres, dampers & lower arms, 12months MOT.

She is also very tidy and has leather, CD changer etc.

Is this a decent price?

Just need to run her for 3-4 months until the 500 turns up.

I think its a fairly good price given the year and although the mileage is high, it shouldnt be cause for concern on that particular engine!

If there are no knocks and/or rattles then you've got a good one, especially when it comes equipped with leather and all the toys

The 24v engine is a fair old lump, fairly swift when you want it to be (especially the manual version wink)

Id say go for it yes

Sounds pretty good, I had one for 2 1/2 years without major problems, it was all the little ones that finally put an end to it at 148000 miles.

The front suspension is pretty complicated and can go through bushes, but your one has had lower arms so should be OK. Mine had the crank oil seal fail, which was going to cost more than it was worth to fix. The wiper motor and linkages can wear out making the wipers hit the bonnet. Also look out for rust on the bootlid.
Umm...
That's about it really. They're generally very tough cars, and were very well built. Utterly crap in snow though.

In all fairness there isnt a lot that goes wrong with them that isnt age related.

I have an E32 with 247000 + on the clock and the only things to go so far are bushes, 1x Upper control arm, 1x central steering arm and now the sump gasket!

Not bad for so many miles biggrin

I replaced the crank seal on mine. Wasn't too bad. The seal was just a few quid, but it was a full on job. Exhaust, drive shaft and gearbox off.

It turned out to be a weeping slave cylinder... D'oh!

Still, once done I could forget about it.

Only other problems were a thermostat, (if it goes, buy the plastic cover too, you'll find out why) a battery, and I flooded the engine once when I turned the key and it span the motor for just a second, and my hand slipped off. I had to pull all the plugs, clean them and refit them to get it to start again. I assume on cold mornings it absolutely hoses fuel in at the very start. It did it twice and wetted the plugs proper style.

That was it in 18 months of running though.

i bought exactly the same car as you, a week ago!

horrible maroon colour
163k
mot till august
ripped cloth seats (seem to be common to all the high miler cloth seat models)

didn't like it at first, i'm used to cars you have to actually drive but now its growing on me. it wafts along with zero effort most of the time, but when you actually want to drive it, it can be quite sporty!
