BMW Spare Key

A friend of mine is in Birmingham in his 55 plate 530D. He has lost his keys and has asked me (in Ireland) to go to his place and look for his spare. I managed to find it, but it is the little plastic key and not the normal key with the 3 buttons, will this key work if I send it over. I dont think the plastic key starts the new 5 series.

I think the plastic key will work fine. its a key that opens and starts everything but doesn't open the glovebox

I believe the alarm will go off when the door is opened after mechanically unlocking with this key but putting it into the ignition and turning the ignition to on should silence the alarm.
