hi guys

just had my service done my my local mechanic, who unfortunately does not have a BMW reset key. i have however heard of a way of doing it without a tool. does anyone know how to do it?

On older models you can usually short a couple of pins on the diagnostic connector to reset the service indicator. That's all those £20 ebay jobs do. On newer models there is a procedure involving the ignition key that resets the indicator -- the EU got a bit upset at BMW locking you into the dealer network in around 2001.

On the older cars its pin 7 to earth, then turn ign to step 1 until service lights reset.
