Morning all, recently had new brake pads and disks all round, (6 weeks ago) but the steering wheel shakes when I'm over 60mph and also the brakes squeek when they have warmed up.

any ideas what this could be?

Squeeking brakes could be anything from grid stuck between the pad and the disk to incorrectly set pads and shoes. Vibration from the steering wheel may be down to the need to rebalance the wheels or you have a bush or damper problem.

Squeeking could be due to incorrectly fitted brake pad sensor or incorrectly fitted pads. Vibration is likely to be unbalanced wheels. Regards,
Felix

Vibration could also be from grit/dirt trapped between rotor and hub meaning disc is effectively running out of true.

Do they still squeal after a few hard stops from 75 mph to really get some heat into them?

Thanks for the replies
They squeel when at lower speeds (but even after very heated after driving motorway etc.)
The steering wheel only vibrates at higher speed braking

Get the car seen to by a BMW specialist and go with the mechanic for a test drive to point out the associated problems.

Front wishbones joints all in good nick as well - usually find that under braking though

First thing to do is balance the wheels.
Next swap wheels front to rear.
Then remove, clean, re-seat discs, check for binding pads and/or calipers.
Reface pads on some 600/800 grit abrasive paper,
closely check bushes for wear on rear of front wishbones, (in seperate holder that bolts to floor) Renew these with poly bushes if you can afford to)
Check front wishbone balljoints.

Stop the above list if you cure the problem though!

My guess is wheel balance for the vibration, reface pads for the squeak, and I bet those rear bushes are shot IN ANY CASE! I fit dozens of them.

Good luck,

8Tech.
