E36 Digital Climate Control

I believe it is quite common for these to go up the spout?

Mine is randomly switching on and off at will. Is it possible to fix myself?

Or do need to send it away for repair?

n.b. If I take the check control unit out and push the wiring connector in it will come back on.

Is it the fan that is switching on and off or the whole display John?

If it 's just the fan that is switching on and off ( the display is OK ) it's most likely the final stage resistor pack ( spiky hedgehog thing )- about £65-£80 depending on where you get the part.

If it's the display dimming/cutting off it's a capacitor in the CC unit ( a very cheap part at Maplins - 80pence ...or if oyu're not great at electronics can get them repaired via Ebay for about £30 - takes a few days though )

Very common problem (one I suffer on occasion with too)

Brilliant ... thanks guys.

I did this repair last night and its now working 100% again!

I didn't actually replace the capacitor, I simply took the unit to bits heated the joint up and added a touch more solder.
