E30 - 318is and similar - info/advice?

Hi BMW lot!
I've been posting in loads of the model specific forums recently - in the New year I'm tempted to change cars. Looking for something with lots of character, good club scene, bit older, something to tinker with, and good to drive, like my little GTi.
I was a bit too sensible when I bought the Peugoet you see - I should have let my heart rule my head a little more. For reference other things I'm considering are MX5's, Porsche 944s, a 205 Gti, you get my drift.
Just been doing a little research on the E30 - never considered it, till going through my Le-mans pics and recalling a superb bunch of guys that stayed with us who were from E30-zone.

Alright its sold, but is that price indicative of the usual?
Ideal cars for me will not neccasrily be garage queens or low milers, but tidy, unmodified and straight/clean.
As its bang on the money for me - and the car looks stunning.
Where can I find any info on the E30, and the 318IS edition? I like the idea of it being nice and lightweight compared the 6 banger, revvy and delicate to drive.
Whats the performance like on these? my 306 is ~ 160bhp, plenty rapid down a b-road. ideally after something thats not too much slower, although straight-line performance is not a priority.
The car will be my only car - but my cars are treat like Sunday cars - Although it will be parked outside, its very much a toy, no commuting, I walk to the shops etc. Purely for tinkering, and driving pleasure.

Ignore the fact its on nasty steel wheels (just needs a set of 15" BBS throwing on it) if this car is as straight as it sounds it is a bargain
A good mopping and fettling it could be an excellent example
Performance is not fantastic but respectable and the handling and balance of the car make them entertaining fun
Definatley one of the more collectable E30's, but good ones are few and far between and normally the wrong side of £2k
